Back to construction!

Well, the boat is put away for the winter. It's time to turn my attention back to my basement renovation and the construction of the Black Ice Home Theater. As it turns out, my electrical permit has expired and I have to renew it for $105. That being said, I better to get a move on so that I can close that permit which requires a final inspection. That means drywall up which, in turn, means all wiring has to be complete. So where to start? Kaoru.

What's in a name?

Before spending Thanksgiving on the boat, Maria wanted to have the boat blessed by following the Portuguese tradition of blessing boats, cars, houses, whatever. Father Octavio, a close friend of the family, was passing through Ottawa and he stopped by to bless the boat. With the blessing, Maria now is fully comfortable in spending time on the boat with family and friends. With that being said, the next step is to properly name the boat and having a christening ceremony. Unfortunately, that will have to wait until spring next year when the boat is commissioned; i.e. put back into the water.

So... I have lots of time to think about a name, right? Nope... I have to register for another MMSI number. My first boat was named Bela Vida, as suggested by Maria, when I was registering for a MMSI number for its VHF/DSC radio. Of course, we didn't have any ceremony for that boat since it was just a runabout, but a cruiser is a different matter. In either case, Maria and myself threw around several ideas. I suggested Bela Vida II but Maria nixed that, something about the translation/play on words in Portuguese that she didn't like. She suggested Santa Maria (Portuguese are very religious) which I said that it wasn't a good idea to have a religious name or that of a family member's name. I sure that in the time to come, I will be frustrated and the boat will be involved, which wouldn't be good if expletives are being used.

Eventually, Maria suggested the below name which I liked since it is more appropriate to my plans for now on during the summer months. I created the graphic from inspiration from various boat names I've seen in passing.
