Vacation #1

Is it a vacation if your not relaxing?  Well, that's my predicament right now and unfortunately a necessary one.  I have SO much stuff to do around the house.  First, the outside requires my attention in the following areas:

  • Main & Pool Deck:  Rails, step, sanding, and staining; finally skirting to stop Clover.
  • Light for the BBQ.
  • Fix fence (thrown posts; reset the panels) and do skirting around base.
  • Chaulking around windows, etc.
  • Sanding & painting veranda columns and rails.
  • Paint the front & garage door.
  • Fix/seal the eve troughs; that's more like a service call.

So now onto the inside... The big one is the basement but that just a bunch of jobs.  I'm currently doing the bathroom downstairs.  I just finished installing the in-floor heating and self-leveling compound for tile underlayment.  The electrical, plumbing, drywall, and priming is all done.  What remains is the electrical connection for the in-floor heating control, Ditra membrane, floor tiles, Kerdi for the shower wall, wall tiles with accent, toilet, vanity, closet door, and trim-out.

After that I have to clean the basement, boy do I have a lot of junk, xmas stuff, etc.  This needs to be trucked upstairs and/or put on the storage shelves.  Removal of old desk and the ever growing wood/garbage pile.  Once all the junk is up in the garage, a garage sale is in order which facilitates the cleaning of my garage.

Now I have the space to finish:

  • Framing:  Entrance to Home Theater, boxes and I-beam inserts, kitchen/dining room stud wall (replacing garbage 2x3's), and finally sauna room.
  • HVAC:  Duct work abounds but most notably in the HT.  Also I have to drill through brick the exhaust vents for bathroom & kitchen.
  • Plumbing:  Hot water connection for the kitchen; maybe for the sauna?
  • Insulation:  Essentially everywhere.
  • Drywall
I'll leave it at drywall since my basement is as big as my upstairs... it will take some effort so maybe I will contract it out.

I can do all of that in the nine days remaining in my work vacation... yeah right!  Well, thank God that I work for two more weeks then I'm off for three weeks vacation.... my REAL vacation.

Cheers,
Ed.
